#07 Attractive employer

Cycles are the sustainable means of transport par excellence. Cycling helps cut traffic congestion and environmental pollution, is beneficial to riders' health and is also simply fun.

On the road to sustainability with company cycles

Cycles are particularly useful in inner-city areas, as they increase flexibility and reduce stress. This is why many people are switching from cars to bikes to get to work. There are more than 250,000 company bikes already on German roads (PDF is only available in german language).

Aareal Bank has also decided to offer employees one to two company cycles per person. This option was introduced in the summer of 2018, after one in four members of staff polled had said they were interested in leasing a company cycle. Since then, 90 bikes have been issued to employees. Staff can choose from a wide range of high-quality bicycles, pedelecs and e-bikes of various types and a number of different brands. It goes without saying that company cycles can also be used during employees' free time and for sport, and not just for travelling to and from work.

Staff who cycle to work are no longer caught in traffic jams, have less stress and are more flexible in terms of time. They're also fitter thanks to the daily exercise, something which helps improve their health. What's more, a high-quality company cycle can be just as motivating as a classic company car.

Leasing company cycles also offers real benefits for Aareal Bank as an employer: it makes us attractive to potential applicants and increases employee motivation. We are also expecting it to have a positive effect on our Company Health Management programme and to reduce days lost due to sickness by improving employee fitness.

“There were a number of reasons for prioritising the introduction of our new leasing offering for company cycles. We want to be an attractive employer and this is another way of offering staff a tax-optimised salary conversion scheme. Of course, the scheme is also good for our employees' health – and hence it fits in with the many measures we take as part of our Company Health Management programme. Additionally, cycling is good for the environment. This allows us to make a modest contribution to improving air quality in Wiesbaden in particular."
